Management Team Robert WhitePresident & Chief Executive Officer Mr. White brings to TYRX over 20 years of senior management experience in the medical technology industry through numerous positions of increasing responsibility with Medtronic Inc., Instromedix-LifeWatch, ALARIS Medical Systems, Eli Lilly, and General Electric. Most recently, Mr. White served as President of Medtronic Kyphon following the $3.9 billion acquisition of the spinal treatment business. During his time with Medtronic, Mr. White also served as President of Physio Control and was responsible for commercial operations for Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management as Vice President of U.S. Sales and Global Marketing. Mr. White began his career with General Electric. In 1989 he joined Eli Lilly and through successive promotional opportunities became the International Marketing Manager for IVAC based in Europe for 3 years. At ALARIS Medical Systems, a $400 million medical device company, his last role was as Vice President, Corporate Development. At Instromedix-LifeWatch, which specializes in selling non-invasive cardiac monitoring solutions, he served as President and CEO. Mr. White holds an MBA from Cornell University and a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
Ray Imp Chief Financial Officer Mr. Imp joined TYRX in January 2006 as its Chief Financial Officer, bringing over 25 years' experience in finance. Prior to TYRX, he was Vice President of Finance at ICM Industries, a start-up consulting and acquisition company that grew to $500 million in revenue, and at Alcan Pharmaceutical Packaging, a $900 million global operation. Mr. Imp’s functional expertise lies in budgeting, financial reporting, strategic planning, acquisitions, and operational/financial restructuring. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland and his MBA from the University of Virginia.
Mark Citron Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Systems Mr. Citron has worked in the regulated medical products industry in the United States and internationally for over 20 years. Most recently he served as a corporate officer of BioMimetic Therapeutics, Inc., with global responsibilities in preclinical, clinical, and product development and approval, involving drugs, devices, biologics and tissue-based products and their combination. The company grew from a market valuation of $5M with 4 employees to over $300M with 70+ employees within 5 years. Mr. Citron previously held positions in product development, regulatory, and quality. He served with the US Food and Drug Administration for over 4 years as a scientific (microbiology) reviewer and field inspector. Subsequently, he was with Johnson & Johnson for 4 years, Bristol-Myers Squibb for 5 years, and Genzyme Tissue Repair for 3 years. Mr. Citron has experience in orthopedics, OB-GYN, wound care, hemostasis, dermatology, and cardiovascular. In addition, he has served on numerous standards committees and industry organizations, including the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), AdvaMed, Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), Orthopedic Surgical Manufacturers Association (OSMA), and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). Mr. Citron has coauthored several articles and book chapters. He is Certified in Regulatory Affairs (RAC) and was a certified lead assessor (ISO-9001). He holds a BS from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and an MS in Microbiology and Health Sciences from Wagner College.
George Landau Vice President, Business Development Mr. Landau brings over 18 years of experience for business strategy and planning, acquisitions, licensing, strategic partnerships and equity investment opportunities in the medical device industry to TYRX. Most recently as Vice President, Business Development and Marketing Planning and member of the Senior Management Team Tengion, Inc. a privately held company focusing on the emerging field of Regenerative Medicine, Mr. Landau led the development of partnership initiatives and pre-commercialization planning for a novel product using combination biologic/medical device technology. Prior to Tengion, Mr. Landau was with Cordis Corporation, Johnson & Johnson’s interventional cardiology franchise, where he served as Executive Director, New Business Development. At Cordis, Mr. Landau facilitated the creation of the Cypher drug eluting stent franchise, and endovascular business unit. Mr. Landau led the licensing efforts of Sirolimus from Wyeth and collaborations and licenses for polymer drug delivery technology as well as other strategic efforts including, the acquisition of Nitinol Devices and Components (NDC), and the acquisition of Teramed, Inc. Prior to Johnson & Johnson, Mr. Landau held positions of increasing responsibility in business development at Pfizer Inc. where he led and supported numerous strategic initiatives as well as acquisitions and divestures in the medical fields of General and Cardiac Surgery, Interventional Cardiology and Radiology, Urology, Cancer and Pain Management. Mr. Landau received his B.A. in Economics from Tulane University and his M.B.A. from New York University.
Daniel Lerner, MDChief Medical OfficerDr. Lerner brings over 18 years of industry and clinical experience to TYRX. Most recently, as Senior Vice President for Foxhollow Technologies, Dr. Lerner established and managed the Foxhollow Molecular Programs Group focused on the development of an innovative Phase Ib/II biomarker-driven platform for evaluating new anti-atherosclerosis drugs in collaboration with Merck & Co. In that role, he was responsible for multiple multi-center, vascular biomarker- and imaging-driven randomized and cohort clinical studies. Prior to joining Foxhollow, Dr. Lerner directed a laboratory focused on understanding the molecular basis of leukocyte migration, in the Division of Cardiology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and was an Attending Physician in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at New York Hospital. Dr. Lerner has received numerous research grants including grants from the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and the Arthritis Foundation, and multiple clinical teaching awards. Dr. Lerner received undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering and biology from Stanford University, and his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Following medical school, Dr. Lerner was a resident, chief resident, cardiology fellow, and chief cardiology fellow at UCSF, before completing his postdoctoral research fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF. Dr. Lerner has served as a consultant for biomedical venture capital, private equity, and hedge fund investment groups evaluating early and late stage pharmaceutical, medical device, and drug/device opportunities. William McJames
Vice President of Product Development Mr. McJames joined TYRX in March 2005 as Vice President of Product Development. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Lehigh University and an MBA with a finance concentration from Rider University. Mr. McJames has over 20 years of experience in the design, development and introduction of medical devices. Prior to joining TYRX, he served as the Director of R&D for the Cardiovations Division of Ethicon, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson Co. (NYSE: JNJ) subsidiary. Mr. McJames held several prior managerial positions for Ethicon, with responsibilities for operations, engineering, and business development. He has been issued 14 U.S. patents for medical devices, medical technology manufacturing processes, and clinical methods for the deployment of innovative medical technology.
Satish Pulapura, PhD Vice President of Advanced Products Dr. Pulapura has served as Director of Polymer Research & Development at TYRX since its founding. He is co-inventor (with his PhD advisor Prof. J. Kohn) of the company’s patented technology based on the tyrosine derived monomers, which received the Thomas Alva Edison Outstanding Patent Award. After obtaining his MS in polymer chemistry from the University of Madras, Dr. Pulapura joined Rutgers University, where he earned his PhD in organic chemistry. He then completed his post doctoral research training at the University of Massachusetts, investigating modifications of natural polymers and enzyme-catalyzed polymer synthesis. Prior to joining TYRX, he was a Research Associate in the Research and Technology group at SmithKline Beecham. Dr. Pulapura has 8 scientific publications and 2 patents. Back to Top
